MSOQ is committed to providing a high quality Montessori
education. Consequently, the school only hires AMI trained
teachers whose training allows for a deeper understanding and
better implementation of the Montessori theory.
Emily Burton (Elementary)
Emily has fond memories of her early years in Montessori at both the
primary and elemenary levels. That childhood experience shaped her
educational philosophy and eventually drew her back to Montessori as an
elementary teacher. Emily holds a B.A. in Geology from Carlton College in
Minnesota and a M.S. in Environmnetal Toxicology from the University of
Wisconsin-Madison. Her A.M.I. elementary diploma is from the Montessori
Institue of Milwaukee.
Carla Carney (Children's House IV)
Carla knows firsthand about the Montessori Children's House:
she attended one as a child! After receiving a B.A.
in Music from Agnes Scott College in Georgia, Carla attended the
Montessori Training Institute of Atlanta. There she earned an
A.M.I. Primary diploma. Carla taught two years in Georgia before
moving to Boston. Carla has also taught English in China and
attended school in the Loire Valley in France. Carla is
enjoying her first full year as a primary teacher at MSOQ.
Mardie Hinkley (Children's House I)
Mardie in is her 12th year of teaching 3-6 year olds in the
Montessori pedagogy. She has her M.Ed. from Cleveland State and
her diploma from the A.M.I. Montessori Education Center of
Arizona. Although Mardie's passion is working with the children
and their families,
she is also an accomplished lecturer, trainer, and mentor of
new AMI teachers.
Sarah Pippenger (Children's House II)
Sarah began her Montessori career in Seattle, Washington. After
attending Seattle Pacific University and working for a short time in the
business world, Sarah accepted a position as an assistant in an AMI
Montessori school and became intrigued with the educational method she
found being implemented there. After gaining experience at several other
Seattle-area schools, Sarah moved to Portland, Oregon and earned her AMI
certification from the Montessori Institute Northwest, under the guidance
of Ginni Sackett. Sarah has recently moved to Boston, and has been
welcomed into the MSOQ family. She is enjoying her first full year as a
primary teacher at MSOQ, and looks forward to many more.
Maritza Rodriguez (Children's House III)
Maritza has been with the school for six years; the most recent
three as an A.M.I. Montessori Teacher. She completed her primary
training at the Montessori Institute of Denver. Fluent in Spanish
and a native of Puerto Rico, Maritza shares her language and
cultural traditions with her class and with the school. Prior
to teaching, Maritza specialized in respiratory therapy.

Rosine Afshar (Director)
As director and former elementary teacher at MSOQ, Rosine
pioneered the elementary class which started in 2002. Prior to
elementary teaching, she enjoyed six years of teaching
primary both at MSOQ and at the Petersham Montessori
School in central Massachusetts. Rosine's A.M.I. primary diploma is from
the Northwest Training Center
in Portland, Oregon. She gained her A.M.I. elementary diploma in
Vancouver, Canada. Rosine also holds an M.Ed. from Loyola College
in Maryland.
Rosine is a vibrant, energetic director who is always available
to parents both informally and formally. She is ever-present,
helping with everything from afternoon pick-up to family education
nights. Rosine is truly hands-on. She is pragmatic. She is open
to ideas while remaining true to Maria Montessori's vision.
